Maths Problem of the week

Well done to Baillie, Hannah and Caleb for successfully completing last weeks problem of the week. Top effort guys

This weeks problem
PIGS AND DUCKS

Pigs and Ducks
Jennie the old sheep dog is lazing around in the paddock near the house.

She counts the number of animals in the paddock. There are 11 of them, pigs and ducks. Then her eye runs over the legs. She sees 28 legs. How many ducks are there?

Remember
1. The Problem
2. Working it out (show all your workings)
3. The solution (answer the question)
4. Reflection (What strategy did you use?)

hint: I would try guess and check and maybe drawing a picture. I would ask myself how
many legs does a pig have? and how many does a duck have? I wonder???

Good Luck

  1. I have never seen a pig wearing shoes. Crazy!

  2. Room 2 thinks the answer is 8 ducks. We read the question 5 times to find out what we had to work out.

    1. Well done room 2, yes it is 8 ducks. We have found that in order to solve these problems we do need to read the problem lots of times to make we understand what it is we have to do.
